Colleen & Stephen | District Winery Spring Wedding

Colleen and Stephen first came to me in the Fall of 2020 where Covid had completely obliterated the wedding industry. Regardless of the circumstances, they were determined to have a District Winery spring wedding. This magazine-worthy couple where Colleen, a Georgetown nursing grad and New Englander from Jersey met her southern gentleman, Stephen, a graduate of ‘Bama (ROLLTIDE!) and native to North Georgia at Town Hall Bar located in College Park in 2015.

From Consult…

As a referral from our dear friends over at The Rosy Posy Floral Design Studio, our consultation call primarily talked about all the “what ifs”,  the “how so-s”, and how Team T&T could come alongside them to bring relief.  This pair is the absolute kindest and sweetest. Throughout our call, all they could focus on was how to make their wedding day smooth and enjoyable for their guests. Some things of big concern were transportation from their Georgetown Church ceremony to their Navy Yard reception at District Winery; and the lingering COVID mandates.

To add, Colleen made it point to mention that at her sister’s wedding, there was not a coordinator hired so she took on that role; something she did NOT want to have happened again. Colleen also expressed concern with design. With her color palette being of navy blues, blush pinks, and botanical greens, she was having difficulty on how to piece it all together without going super “overboard” with the nautical theme (pun, intended!). And that is where T&T was going to come in. Colleen and Stephen moved forward with the Event Management + Design package which served them extremely well! They had secured all of the vendors they needed prior to booking T&T with the exception of their transportation company and coordinator. This allowed me the pleasure of match making them with a great transportation team in collaboration with the T&T Team!

…to Execution!

Months leading up to the wedding we were on strict COVID watch. The District being one of the most strict with their mandates, it was a weekly change of events with the new ordinances and announcements. For example, just shy of 2 months prior to wedding day DC loosened their capacity restrictions from 50 persons to allowing restaurants to run at 25% of their occupancy. However, patrons could still not eat and mingle maskless unless seated at a table. This meant that Colleen and Stephen could extend more invites to the ones they loved, BUT in an urgent timeframe.

Come wedding day they were surrounded by 65 of their loved ones. But that was not all! On wedding day, DC Mayor Bowser made the announcement that absolutely no dancing should be taking place at weddings! The District had become the Footloose city of America! But that did not stop Colleen and Stephen from having what was an absolutely easy, breezy day.

Stephen even mentioned in his post wedding review,

“We loved working with Katie! She was incredibly professional and helped guide us through the entire process when we needed it most. COVID also presented several challenges throughout the journey, and Katie was there for us. We were glad that she had a day of assistant that helped manage events.”

While Colleen’s “review” came when we did the reception reveal on wedding day as she burst into tears at the sight of everything planned come reality. It truly was heartwarming to see it all come together for what was the most deserving of couples.

Colleen and Stephen’s springtime District Winery wedding will be one for the books for T&T; A truly simplistic and elegant wedding with so much joy and happiness that has me wanting to relive it over and over again. Thankfully, the amazing women at Birds of a Feather Photography captured the day in perfect fashion. Enjoy!
